piano teaching fit for the future

The piano is a portal into other worlds, transcending genres, serving as a versatile composing tool and a gateway to understanding harmony. Its timeless value stands firm in our rapidly evolving world, offering a universe at our fingertips, beyond augmented or virtual realities.
Teaching piano across all ages and skill levels, I cater to diverse learning preferences, from structured exam preparations (RSL, Trinity, ABRSM) to playing beloved tunes from various media.
As a multifaceted musician, I've transitioned from sheet music reliance to crafting ear-based arrangements and producing music. My YouTube channel showcases my Ableton Live and Max/MSP skills, while my improvisations create ambient soundscapes of otherworldly allure.
With academic foundations in Music from King's College London and a Master's in Composition from the University of Surrey, I share my comprehensive knowledge passionately, aiming to nurture skilled and enthusiastic musicians.
Incorporating music production into piano lessons has proven transformative. Through Garage Band song-writing and podcasting instruction to introducing apps like Koala Sampler and BandLab, I've witnessed the boundless potential of music production as an educational tool.
Based in Stone, I offer lessons at my home and am open to traveling within an 8-mile radius to bring music education to your doorstep.
my mission
Piano teaching is a rewarding but challenging profession that requires constant adaptation and innovation.
- I use a blended learning approach that combines online and offline resources, such as videos, apps, games, books and sheet music. This allows me to cater to different learning styles, preferences and needs of my students, as well as to provide them with more variety and flexibility in their learning process.
- I emphasise creativity and expression in my piano lessons, rather than just focusing on technique and theory. I encourage my students to explore different genres, styles and forms of music, to improvise and compose their own pieces, and to perform for various audiences and occasions. This helps them to develop their musical identity, confidence and communication skills.
- I foster a positive and supportive learning environment that is based on mutual respect, trust and feedback. I treat my students as individuals, not as numbers, and I tailor my lessons to their goals, interests and abilities. I also provide them with regular and constructive feedback, both verbally and in writing, to help them monitor their progress and improve their performance.
- I keep myself updated with the latest trends, developments and innovations in the field of piano teaching. I attend professional development courses, workshops and conferences, read journals and blogs, and network with other piano teachers. I also experiment with new methods, tools and strategies in my own teaching practice, and evaluate their effectiveness and impact on my students' learning outcomes.
